Social Emotional Learning

College Station ISD

What is

Social Emotional Learning?

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines social and emotional learning as “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

In College Station ISD, we recognize that our work is incomplete if we only focus on our students’ academic needs. We recognize that we need to do more than hope that we’re creating leaders in CSISD. We need to teach certain soft skills if we want to send out students who are going to be leaders who give back more than they take from their communities.

Bear with us as we work through this beta launch of these resources. We’re excited to get these resources into teachers’ hands, but we’re still growing the site.

Our hope is that every student at every grade level has a chance to learn these skills:

Honesty
Effective Decision Making
Appreciating Differences
Relationships
Tenacity

We hope the lessons on this site are a great place for teachers to start those conversations!
